Linux Enterprise System Consulting

Linux is fast establishing itself as an enterprise-class OS, with its offer of great performance and extraordinary reliability on IA based hardware.

Even in sectors where Unix had a strong foothold, there is a growing trend amongst enterprises moving towards IA based hardware (running Linux), which will deliver high performance and security that parallel Unix servers, but at a lower acquisition cost.

A Linux system of the highest service level should be maintained at the same high service level after implementation, providing continuous value for customers.

Consultative Approach to Proposing a System Solution

After a thorough discussion with Customers, Dell Professional Service will propose a solution (along with the appropriate hardware and software) that meets the Customers' specific needs.

Backup/Recovery Solution

Additionally, Dell can provide support service around the data applications, including data backup, data recovery and system recovery to minimize cost in accidental and mass data failure or loss.

Unix Down Sizing

When Customers choose to down-sizing their existing Unix system, Dell Professional Service can assist them in deploying an IA-based solution, with performance that parallels the performance of Unix systems. We will provide assistance with tasks such as ensuring a stable migration of existing Unix system, proposing enhancements to the system configuration and highlighting risks involved in the migration process.

Migration Service

The work of system migration includes system design, set-up of server and storage, as well as OS configuration, cluster deployment, migration of applications and backup software, configuration of backup job and design of storage media.

  • Hardware Design and Setup
Physical designs on storage allocation, etc.
Works on disk storage volume according to the set-up design.
  • Software Configuration
Defines migrated parameters of operating system and other various applications
Reconstructs the kernel of migrated operational system according to the set-up design; configures migration from network connection to various applications.
  • High-availability Design (HA Cluster Environment) and Deployment
Designs service redundancy, fail over and fail back under cluster ring to achieve better performance of cluster system.
Migrates software for cluster under cluster ring. Configure file options, parameters and console according to the set-up design. Briefly introduces methods to control the management console and how to judge its status.
  • Data Backup Design and Migration
Verifies the migrated applications and data, designs the backup job with backup software. Then, designs the rotation of tape media by configuring save-period and save-type of backup data.
After the installation of backup software, configure the backup job referring to the set-up design. Configures the storage proportion on tape device according to designs on tape media. Briefly introduces ways to control the management console for backup software and how to judge its status.

Why is HA cluster needed?

  • Nowadays it is not only daily operation within the companies that we should attend to, the more important are the services for our customers, of which the dependency on computer system is imponderable.
  • Operations within the companies and all services for our customers will be paralyzed if downing occurs to computer system.
  • It will undoubtedly cause substantial cost for companies and bring great troubles to customers, or even damage enterprise images.

About HA Cluster System

  • Clustering is a way of integrating several servers
  • HA hi-availability feature cuts the non-operational troubles of the system.
  • HA cluster enhances availability and scalability for single operation on multi-server.

HA cluster

The collaboration of HA cluster uses shared disk cluster, dramatically reducing operation/service downtime.

Dell Enterprise Cluster System

At Dell, system clustering includes not only redundancy of servers, but also redundancy of Dell | EMC storage.

Dell high-reliability storage -- Dell | EMC CX series, storage processor, data communication bus, etc. Dell cluster solution also includes the full double handling of all components, when considering the redundancy of storage. Additionally, to ensure the flexibility of disk content, Dell uses technologies on the transition of data on storage equipment to disk, while taking full considerations of power failure.

Single Point of Failure, the most important part of HA cluster, ensures data flexibility and help implement IA-base system. Below is an HA cluster system by Dell.
