 | | Dell today introduced its new Dell EC280, a complete desktop computer developed for Chinese consumers who are first-time or relative novice personal-computer users. The product was developed by engineers at Dell's China Design Center located in Shanghai. "Our business has always been about understanding customer requirements, then meeting them with great technology, great service and great value," said Michael Dell, the company's chief executive officer, at a product launch here today. "This is a product designed first for the demands of Chinese customers.""Today there are one billion people online worldwide, and many of the world's second billion users are right here in China. We intend to earn their confidence and their business."The DellTM EC280 offers customers a full PC experience and exceptional value. It is ideal for sharing digital music and photographs, exploring cyberspace, using multimedia applications, participating in online chat and sending and receiving e-mail. Its compact, energy-efficient design delivers added value by taking less workspace, consuming less electricity, and being cooler and quieter than larger desktop PCs.The new system complements Dell's extensive range of desktop and notebook computer systems. Strong reception of those products by China consumers pushed Dell to consumer growth last year that was more than double the rate of others in the country. Mr. Dell said the company's overall business in China is strong, growing and profitable. In the company's last fiscal year, Dell revenue in China increased 26 percent. Dell's revenue share in China is about 20 percent, double its 10-percent share of product shipments, owing to the company's extensive product and service portfolio. For example, Dell is the national industry leader in shipments of server computers used to run information-technology networks and Web sites.Dell's highest measured customer satisfaction globally is in China, and the company is investing to sustain its superior customer experience in China. Last year, for example, Dell significantly expanded its already huge presence in China, including opening a second factory in Xiamen, doubling the scale of its China Design Center in Shanghai, and making sizable purchases from China-based technology suppliers. The DellTM EC280 features design elements including a space-saving, 4.5-liter chassis, high reliability, easy serviceability, low power consumption and quiet operation. With its Mini-iTX *form-factor motherboard, the size of the system is about one-eighth of a regular ATX case. The new product is offered in two hardware options and three monitor/display choices—17- and 15-inch LCD displays, and a 17-inch CRT. Customers may also choose no monitor. Prices range from RMB2,599 to RMB3,999 with an Intel processor 205, with 256MB to 512MB of memory, a 40G or 80G hard drive, CD-ROM or DVD-ROM options, and the Windows XP Home Edition operating system. Customers can purchase this product online via www.dell.com.cn or through a toll-free phone call, and experience the product at Dell's Customer Experience Centers in Chongqing and Nanjing. |
