 |  | The Second Dell Cup Computer Knowledge Training & Contest Completion and Award Ceremony was held at Dell's Chinese Customer Center in Xiamen. where certificates and computers were awarded to 60 outstanding students at the ceremony. At this event, leaders of the Xiamen government made positive references to Dell's work as a qualified corporate citizen and confirmed Dell's enthusiasm to local public welfare establishments and selfless contributions made to education industry. Present at the ceremony were Zhuang Wei, Vice Chairman of Xiamen CPPCC, Wang Rong, President of Xiamen Education Fund, Yang Yijian, member and Vice Director of NPC Committee of ESCHS (education, science, culture, health and sports), Guo Qingjun, Vice Secretary of Xiamen Education Bureau, Wang Yaojie, Vice Director of Xiamen Daily, Chen Rongping, HR Director of Dell (China) Inc. and other leaders of Xiamen government as well. Jointly hosted by Dell (China), Xiamen Education Fund and Xiamen Daily, the second Dell Cup Computer Knowledge Training & Contest opened a door for all poor students in Xiamen and provided them with a chance to access computer technology. The program not only helped students make dreams come true but aimed to bridge the digital gap in local areas. During the two months since October, 200 poor students from Xiamen received 40-hour free training courses provided by Dell's volunteers. After the training they could install hardware and software, recognize and troubleshoot common computer failures, and grasped network and basic office applications. As a result, Dell awarded a computer to 60 most outstanding students.President of Xiamen Education Fund, Wang Rong expressed, "Education is a major issue concerning a country's future. As one part of building a harmonious society, the education of migrant workers' children has always been highly focused on. Dell's work provides a platform for them. It is not only a good combination of a company's social responsibilities and the society's education function, but a good example for other enterprises."The program proves again Dell's commitment of caring of public welfare, serving local communities and cities, and being an outstanding corporate citizen. During the program, over 100 Dell volunteers showed great zeal in spite of their busy work. They even sacrificed all their weekends to teach these students. Vice President of Dell (China) & General Manager of China Customer Center, York Li said, "Dell always regards repaying society as one of its important roles and a consistent promise. Education is a long and ongoing journey and is never been an overnight job. Confronting the world's fast-developing technology and ever-changing knowledge, we wish to take advantage of our capability to repay the society and better help the community, the government and the masses."Taking positive implementation of the corporate social responsibilities as one important part in its culture, Dell has long been engaging in making contribution to social development. Dell built four learning centers in Beijing, Xiamen, Shanghai and Dalian in 2006, helping local migrant workers and their children master computer knowledge. Dell has plans for another three Dell Learning Centers to be set up this year. Recently, Dell received the awards for "Excellent Foreign Investment Enterprises 2006" by the Ministry of Commerce, and "Outstanding Contribution to the Society" by China Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment (CAEFI). With these awards, Dell's efforts and contributions to China and repaying the country were once again widely acknowledged. |
