Plan for future backup and recovery objectives
Select backup software that will help you meet your recovery time objectives (RTO - how fast you can recover your data in the event of data corruption or hardware error) and recovery point objectives (RPO - the amount of data available for recovery which is based on how often you backup). These objectives may differ according to the type of data you are backing up – e.g., your Oracle database may require greater RTO and RPO than your file server.
Migrating to new backup software can be a costly and difficult process, so select an option that can scale to best meet your growing data needs in the future as well as what you have in place today.
Consider disk and tape backup requirements
You can now easily combine backup to disk with use of tape, to help reduce backup & recover time and lower media costs. All backup software offered through Dell includes some level of backup-to-disk functionality. In addition, Dell offers data protection solutions specifically designed for your virtual server environment, taking the complexity out of virtualization management.
